1965 LAMBORGHINI 3500GTZ
Chassis #0310
Engine #0301
Zagato #589
This white 3500GTZ by Zagato was built on a mounted 10 cm shortened 350 GT chassis. The design was executed by Ercole Spada and showed some similarity to the earlier Ferrari 25O GTOs. This car was originally a white LHD car when it appeared at the London Motor Show in 1965. The car was originally sold to ex-racing driver Marchese Gerino Gerini, Lamborghini's agent in Milan. The car was repainted in an Italian red, then later a Jaguar Red when it was first restored and converted to RHD in Australia where it has been for many, many years. The car was purchased 1999 and shipped to the Netherlands where it is undergoing restoration and conversion back to LHD (see Marcel de Lange photos below).
Some older books on Lamborghini record there being 2 of these cars built with #0322 being the second of these. For years this car's Australian owner and others had not been able to prove the existance of this second car until now. #0322 does or did exist. Its present whereabouts is unknown though it may be in Hong Kong.
"The Italian Car Registry" that is published by Jarl de Boer, does list 2 different Zagato coachwork numbers. The first of these is Lamborghini's Berlinetta Zagato (#589) which is bianco (white) 12435 with "interni elastipel nero" (which should be plastic black interior), built 12/10/1965 and the other one is Berlinetta Zagato (#590) which is grigio (grey) 16201 with "interni in pelle nera" (which should be black leather interior) built 29/10/1965.
The car featured on this page does have a black leather interior, so you might think that it would be #590, but the car pictured in the first book on Zagato shows a white car. . .
This car spent most of its life in Australia after being repainted red.
Next to the Netherlands where it was completely restored back to its original white and lhd configuration.
Next sold to a well known collector in Arizona, USA.
