1978 Espada S3
Chassis #9704
Engine #41502
Prod. #1184

This car is reputedly the penultimate RHD car which its Bertone body number (1184) may confirm. The story passed on to its present owner is that the car was bought by investors in the late 80's (during the classic car boom) to be part of a collection of Lamborghinis (one of each model) to be restored at no expense spared for a museum. They bought the best example they could find as a basis then set to work. This Espada got as far as an astonishing body, refurbished driveline by Portman Lamborghini (concessionaires at that time) and a pile of boxes containing brand new bushes, seals and other perishables. Then the classic car market crashed and this Espada languished as a 'kit'. The Îkit©ö was subsequently purchased in pieces by leading UK-based Lamborghini specialist Colin Clark from the liquidators of Portman Lamborghini. Colin assembled the car for Paul Staden.

Early notes by the ILR indicated this car as being Brown/Light Tan and located in Hertfordshire, GB registered RUU 533 R, formerly 800 SYD. I would be pleased to learn about how the Brown/800 SYD car was posted with the chassis number of this car or, if it is the case that this car is 800 SYD, who was responsible for it changing to Blue? We would be pleased to hear anything that might offer some explanation of the Brown/Blue 9704.

Known history since 1992:
10 March 1992 - acquired by the "Cannon Corporation (Tricapital Ltd)". An early log book copy records the car as being blue and registered as UPP 506R from at least 1992. The log book notes: "Imported Vehicle - was registered/used overseas. Declared manufactured 1977."

21 December 1995 - Paul Staden became the registered keeper of the car.

25 September 2003 - purchased by Phil James of Milton Keynes, GB. The car is presently in exceptional condition. The current mileage is just over 29,000 miles.

December 2004 - appeared in feature article in January 2005 issue of Octane magazine.
