1988 Bertone Genesis (1 Made)
Chassis #S 274 5 88

GENESIS is a Bertone prototype powered by a V12 Lamborghini engine, automatic transmission and a special chassis perfectly road-worthy.

In just 4270 days we'll be in the year 2000 and the GENESIS represents a creative exploration of a possible GT car for coming decades, in line with the likely mobility and comfort requirements of the near futures.

Bertone has decided to go even further in its interpretation of "precursor" car like the MIURA, the COUNTACH and the STRATOS, models whose common denominator was:

  • very high performance features
  • spectacular styling
And the GENESIS retains these features intact.

We are convinced that in the year 2000 the customer will want to sacrifice nothing of the way he lives and understands sporting qualities. He will want to continue using the objects and equipment that daily pamper his way of life. He will want to deploy every possible tool and communications medium and he will be surrounded by them at home and at work. Then he will want to sheer physical pleasure of moving rapidly overland in a car, alone or in company, with the possibility of maximum mutual communication or in comcentrated isolation. The pleasure of feeling himself in a privileged, gratifying codition. Of standing out from the crowd in a vehicle of exceptional power and spectacular appearance. A way of "growing", of living better and more pleasantly one's own "mobility" and ones own life.

In our GENESIS design study, we set ourselves no limits, clearly attempting to discount the future as and how our intuition suggested. So for the mechanicals we considered the possible solutions, ignoring others that are perhaps more sophisticated but that need careful experimental work. The GENSIS prototype should therefore be assessed and observed as potential proposal and this was the purpose we set ourselves in every detail.

The shape is characterized by extensive glass surfaces. Adequate heating/ventilation and photocromatic windows may, in the near future, guarantee perfect passenger visibility and comfort. The opening of the sliding side doors guarantees excellent access to the rear part of the passenger compartment. The wing-type doors permit a central upright solution rather than the two traditional side uprights and the total front visibility angle is thus improved.

The interior of the car offers a new proposal for the utilisation of available space. special attention was paid to the design and manufacture of the seats. A complex set of devices make it possible to alter interior layout at will and without effort. More specifically, we would point out:

DRIVING SIDE FRONT SEAT.
  • Back adjustable fore and aft and for rake
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT.
  • Back adjustable fore and aft and for rake.
  • With a signle control it can also perform a series of movements in an automatic sequence that rotates the back 180 degrees, lowers it 80mm, reclines it and pushes it forwards and backwards.
CENTRE SEAT OVER FLOOR TUNNEL.
  • The whole unit can rotate 180 degrees on a vertical axis.
  • It can slide about 700mm. longwise to give the passenger a view of the road ahead or behind.
  • The back can be folded on to the cushion (about 100 degrees) to become a table.
REAR SEATS.
  • These can be moved forward about 700mm.
  • The back may be raclined backwards and a combined movement brings a padded leg rest out front under the cushion.
In addition, two small loudspeakers at head side are provided for each occupant; other larger speakers are positioned in lower, indirect areas to permit individual, clear listening at lower volume and so permit some independence of listening between front and rear (e.g. front CD music and rear a video programme).

Seats are upholster in silverdrop Alcantara, a new material with very attractive coulours. The other Alcantara linings have been treated with a graphics that confer on the whole tone of refinement and originality.

Overall volumes, the unusual handling of surfaces and, obviously, the boisterous engine power, confer om the GENESIS prototype a marked sporting personality that is very effective and very exciting. The power is pointed up by tyres of definite sporting inspiration. A thoroughbred in line with the traditional role of coachbuilder/designer that has always been ahead of the times with ideas that might be provoking, but are never banal or anonymous.
