1981 Jalpa
Chassis #40058
Engine #40058
This is the pre-production Jalpa, built on a 1978 Shilhouette chassis #40058, was shown at the 1981 Geneva Motor Show. The original Silhouette was delivered 09/01/78 to Achili Motors. It was later returned to the factory and was developed into the Jalpa prototype. This is the only Jalpa to have a 3.0 litre engine in it, and not the 3.5 litre engine of the production car. This car also had a molded in spoiler on the luggage compartment lid at the rear that never made it to the production model. The Silhouette taillights were carried over to the first few Jalpas but were later changed to dual circular units we are more familiar with. This car had the beautiful crossed style light and dark brown striped leather seats and a special steering wheel. The dashboard and bumpers on this car were done in light mustard colors while those on production Jalpas were dark.
Originally painted a bright metallic bronze, this car is now painted white with a black interior and is still owned by the factory.
