1972 MIURA SV
Chassis #5054
Engine #30706
Prod. #727
6 Mar 1972
Factory production lists confirm that this Miura was ordered via Swiss Lamborghini importer and former racing driver Karl Foitek and was specified in a distinctive shade of Tahiti blue with beige leather upholstery and optional air conditioning. Two Miuras were delivered in this colour: the other is chassis 5066. Rarely seen Bertone records reveal that the car was built for the 1972 Geneva Motor Show: "Salone di Ginevra 1972. Pelle naturale. Cruscotto Bleu. Sedili con panno. Beige scuro Dino. Bleu Tahiti met.1-463-177. AC". In other words: Geneva Show car, natural leather, blue dashboard, seats with cloth, Dino dark beige, Tahiti blue metallic and the paint code. Air conditioning.
Research with Geneva press archives has also turned up a colour photograph of 5054 on the Lamborghini stand at the 1972 Motor Show in its distinctive livery.
As a late specification car, this SV benefits from split engine/ gearbox lubrication. Air conditioning, the most notable option, is also fitted.
Since late 1972 chassis 5054 has covered 69,279km in the hands of one owner and has been appraised by DEKRA, the independent German car certification experts, as "excellent" or "very good" in every area. It has never been crashed or neglected, with servicing carried out by Kremer in Bonn. All the body panels, including each single rear slat on the engine cover, retain the body number 827. The engine has never been opened and starts first time without smoke or fuss, settling down to a smooth idle. The original Autovox cassette player is present. The spare wheel retains its original tyre, unused, and the spare wheel straps and battery cover are in place too. Pirelli P7 tyres of the correct size are fitted.
The original paintwork and interior, both over 30 years old, are generally well preserved, with stone chips to the nose area and some wear to the cabin trim. Two sets of wheel spinners are supplied: the original, long eared items and a set of short eared spinners to pass the German roadworthiness test (the long eared ones were illegal in Germany for safety reasons). Period Britax safety harnesses are fitted, as are a pair of Bosch driving lights. Nothing has been replaced or changed on the car since acquired in 1972 other than routine maintenance.
It has its original factory leather wallet containing: guarantee card, colour SV owners manual, service network booklet, running in instructions, tape player instructions and guarantee card (dated 30.3.72), 1971 Lamborghini price list, and German dealers network list. In the boot the jack and wheel brace in their canvas bag and the tools in another are in place. The German 'fahrzeugbrief' is with the car.
In August 2005 this car was sold privately by Bonhams in Geneva to a well-known German collector for an undisclosed record price. It will be mechanically checked over but left otherwise cosmetically untouched.
