P400 Miura SV (150 Made March 1971-Oct 1973)
The Miura SV was the last "official" model Miura produced. We say this because many customers had their cars uprated to Jota specs by the factory although this was not a production version. The SV was first shown in March 1971 at the Geneva show.
The most significant change on the SV was that the oil supplies to the crankcase and transmission were finally separated allowing for proper lubricants to be used and limiting contaminants in either. This also allowed for the installation of a new ZF limited-slip differential. All of this greatly improved shifting feel though not lightening the ammount of effort required by much.
The engine was tweeked further with the SV. Different can timing, bigger valves and altered carbs increased fuel consumption so much that the factory offered a larger 110 litre fuel tank as an option. Horsepower increased to 385bhp at 7850rpm but torque remained at 286 blsft at 5000rpm.
On the outside the most noticable difference would have to be the absense of the eyelashes surrounding the headlights. The SV benefitted from new nine inch wheels and Pirelli Cinturato FR70VR-15 tires. This neccessitated the slight widening of the rear fenders.
Inside, the previous vinyl interior was now fully leather and included passenger grab handles.
150 of the Miura P400SV model were produced with many more previous models being uprated to SV specs. By the end of Miura production 763 cars were built in total and 11 were rebult or run through the production line again.
The factory prepared a version of both single and split-sump SVs for the US market. They mostly had a/c fitted and d.o.t. side-marker lights on all 4 corners (pity..). They were all (except one) imported through the factory-established distributor, Modena Racing Car Co. of New York, owned and operated by Alfredo Pedretti. 20 US spec cars came through Pedretti's Modena racing car, with one private importation, making a total of 21 US spec cars.
